Company profile: Desafio Adventure company with over 10 years experience in adventure sports is one of the most respected companies in the northern zone of Costa Rica. Horse Trek Costa Rica was formed as its sister company a few years ago, to specialize in horse riding holidays in the northern areas of Monteverde and Arenal. This is personally run by Janet Ellis and her Costa Rican partner Marvin Anchia Delgado who accompany the longer tours.

Destination Profile: Our horse riding tours are an extraordinary way to experience the beautiful north and northwest regions of Costa Rica. We offer original, adventurous and ecologically sensitive tours. The emphasis is on horse riding and horse care and will appeal to horse lovers of all ages and experience. You are encouraged to join in with the care of your horse, Costa Rican style of course! Where possible a minibus will accompany most parts of the tours, to transport luggage and tired people! But the tour is not just about riding. It is an adventure and an educational journey. The tour will take in many examples of Costa Rica's diverse ecosystems and you will visit volcanoes, cloud forests, rivers, farming regions, jungle areas, waterfalls and the beach. We use a mixture of accommodation. Hotels, pensions and ecolodges. Most of the hotels have private baths and some have swimming pools. We use Costa Rican saddles, similar to western saddles but lighter and very comfortable for long distance traveling.
About the horses: Horses are mainly mixes of Criollo, quarter horse and English. These are small but strong and used to the sometimes tough terrain in the mountains.
