| Destination Profile: We ride in a rural area of mountains, hills, pastures and forests. Our neighbours are small farmers, most of whom still use draught horses. Traditional folk culture remains strong, with characteristic music, costumes and architecture to be seen. Our trails are quiet paths and trackways where most of the limited traffic is horse-drawn. Horses are traditional local breeds - the Huzul mountain horse, the Lipizzaner, and the Arabian. Accommodation mostly uses locally-run guesthouses. As a responsible tour operator, most of our income benefits local people, and we minimise our environmental impact. About the horses: Our horses are the traditional breeds of Transylvania. The Huzul mountain horse is a sturdy, agile, intelligent breed standing around 14 hands, and is a direct descendant of the Tarpan. The Lipizzaner is a fine riding and carriage horse. The Arabian is a lively, intelligent riding horse. The Romanian general purpose horse is bred from a mix of Lipizzaner and draught stock to give a heavier horse suitable for riding and farm work. | ||||||||||||||||||||
